How the setup works

Godox V1 Round Head TTL Speedlite

Its round flash head produces smooth light fall-off and incorporates a magnetic mounting system for compatible round-head accessories. High-Speed Sync up to 1/8000s provides additional flexibility when balancing flash against brighter ambient conditions or when working with wider apertures. The rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery delivers up to 480 full-power flashes per charge, with a recycle time of less than 1.5 seconds at full power. A built-in 2.4GHz wireless receiver also allows the V1 to be incorporated into a compatible wireless off-camera flash setup.

40-inch Black/Silver Studio Bounce Umbrella

In this setup, the V1 is directed into the silver surface rather than through the umbrella. The flash is reflected back towards the subject, increasing the effective size of the light source compared with using the bare speedlite alone. The silver interior provides an efficient reflective surface, while the black exterior prevents the umbrella from functioning as a conventional shoot-through modifier.

Godox S3 S-Type SMART Speedlite Adapter Bracket

It supports the V1 and provides an umbrella mounting point for the included bounce umbrella. Once mounted on the stand, the bracket can be tilted to help direct the flash and umbrella towards the subject. The S3 also provides a Bowens S-Type fitting, allowing the setup to be expanded with compatible Bowens S-Type modifiers if you want to experiment with different approaches to shaping the V1's light.

Adjustable height allows the light source to be positioned to suit the subject and desired lighting effect. Moving the flash independently of the camera gives you greater control over direction and helps create shape and depth in portraits and other subjects.
